Beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB), also known as beta-hydroxybutyric acid, is an important hydroxy acid produced in the body and is one of the three ketone bodies. It is a metabolite generated from the breakdown of fats during a state of ketosis and serves as a major source of energy in the body.
