General information
Description and emendation
Cells consist of short rods (approx. 2-3 μm in length and 1 μm in width), which stain Gram-negative and motile. Non-hemolytic. Facultatively anaerobic and oxidase-negative. Acid is produced from glucose, L-arabinose, lactose, D-maltose, D-mannose, L-rhamnose, salicin, D-trehalose, D-xylose, but not from sucrose, D-melibiose, D-adonitol, D-arabitol, D-dulcitol, D-erythritol, L-inositol, and D-sorbitol. Aesculin and ONPG reactions are positive. Urease is negative. Acetoin is not produced. Arginine dihydrolase negative, but lysine decarboxylase and ornithine decarboxylase variable. Indole and H2S negative. Nitrate is reduced to nitrite. The fatty acid profiles are characterized by high amounts of C16:0 and C17:0 cyclo, C18:1 ω7c in addition to summed feature 3 (C16:1 ω7c/2-OH C15:0 ISO), summed feature 2 (3-OH C14:0/C16:1 ISO I), C14:0 and C12:0. The G+C content of DNA is 54.2-57.1 G+C mol%.
