Etymology
Gr. n. <i>anthropos</i>, a human being; N.L. gen. n. <i>anthropi</i>, of a human being, since virtually all strains thus far recovered are from human clinical specimens and since it represents the first characterized species including human clinical isolates in the phylum "<i>Synergistetes</i>".

Source
isolated from human clinical samples (wounds, cysts and abscesses).
Morphology
Cells are non-motile, non-spore-forming, straight rods (0.8-0.9 × 1.4-1.7 µm). Colonies are very small (0.5 mm), non-haemolytic, circular, shiny and grey after 3-5 days at 37°C on Columbia sheep blood agar.
