Cells are Gram-positive, aerobic, have motile and non-motile forms, inhabit stone surfaces and interiors, and are pigmented. A member of the class Actinobacteria. Contains a single family, Geodermatophilaceae. The type genus is Geodermatophilus; there are two other genera, Modestobacter and Blastococcus.
