Cells are Gram-stain-negative. Straight or curved rods or filamentous. Mesophilic. Non-endospore-forming. Mostly facultatively anaerobic. Non-motile or motile by gliding. The major respiratory quinone is MK-7. The major polar lipid include phosphatidylethanolamine. The order includes the families Marinilabiliaceae, Prolixibacteraceae and Marinifilaceae.
