General information
Description and emendation
cells consist of short, straight or curved diphtheroid rods which stain gram positive and are non-acid fast and nonmotile, nonhemolytic, anaerobic, and catalase negative. Acid is produced from glucose and some other sugars. Lactic and succinic acids are the major end products of glucose metabolism. Hippurate is hydrolyzed, but esculin, gelatin, and starch are not hydrolyzed. Acetoin is not produced. It is α-glucosidase and leucine arylamidase positive and arginine dihydrolase, pyrazinamidase, urease, and indole negative. Nitrate is reduced to nitrite by the majority of isolates. The G+C content of DNA is 51.7 mol%.
1: Cells consist of short, straight or curved diphtheroid rods which stain Gram-positive, are non acid-fast and non-motile. Non-hemolytic. Strictly anaerobic and catalase negative. Acid is produced from D-glucose, D-ribose, D-maltose and D-saccharose, but not from D-xylose, D-mannitol, D-lactose, glycogen, D-mannose and D-raffinose. Esculin and gelatin are not hydrolyzed. The type strain was positive for α-glucosidase, proline arylamidase, phenylalanine arylamidase, leucine arylamidase, tyrosine arylamidase, but negative for pyrazinamidase, pyrrolidonyl arylamidase, alkaline phosphatase, β-glucuronidase, α-galactosidase, β-galactosidase, β-glucosidase, N-acetyl-β-glucosaminidase, arginine dihydrolase, β-galactosidase 6 phosphate, α-arabinosidase, arginine arylamidase, leucyl glycine arylamidase, alanine arylamidase, glycine arylamidase, histidine arylamidase, glutamyl glutamic acid arylamidase, serine arylamidase, glutamic acid decarboxylase, α-fucosidase, indole production and urease. The G+C content of DNA is between 52.7 and 54.0 mol% (genome sequences).
