Cells are rod-shaped (0.5-1.0 × 1.0-1.5 μm); bulbous ends may be present. Gram-positive and non-motile. Spores are not formed. Strictly anaerobic chemoorganotroph; growth is dependent on the presence of a suitable electron acceptor and is proportional to the amount of acceptor reduced. The G+C content of DNA ranges from 56 to 60 mol% (Tm).
