Cells are anaerobic, straight rods, motile by means of flagella and Gram-staining-negative. No spores are produced. The major cellular fatty acids are C14:0, iso-C15:0 and C16:0. The main polar lipids are diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, an unknown phospholipid and two unknown polar lipids. The major respiratory quinone is menaquinone MK-5 (V-H2). The DNA G+C content of the type species is 37.4 mol%.
