Cells are Gram-stain-positive, spore-forming, motile, straight to slightly curved rods. Thermophilic and alkaliphilic, with growth at pH 8.0-10.0. Catalase-negative. Cellular fatty acids are composed mainly of 16-carbon-containing saturated, branched fatty acids (iso-C16:0, iso-C14:0 3-OH and iso-C15:0). The cell wall peptidoglycan is meso-DAP. Obligately anaerobic.
