A member of the phylum comprising low-G+C, Gram-positive bacteria. Cells are Gram-reaction-negative, motile, spore-forming rods. Moderately thermophilic. Obligatory anaerobic and catalase-negative. Chemoorganotroph. The DNA G+C content of the type species is 36.2 mol%.
