Acetivibrio Patel et al. 1980
General information
Description and emendation
default
1: With the addition of A. ethanolgignens to the genus Acetivibrio, the description of the genus will have to be emended to include cells which are motile by a single polar flagellum or by multiple flagella emanating from the concave side of the cells.
2: The two species currently in this genus are motile by single or multiple flagella. Therefore, we emend the description of the genus Acetivibrio to include nonmotile aflagellate species with cellular and metabolic properties similar to those of Acetivibrio cellulolyticus and Acetivibrio ethanolgignens.
3: It is further proposed that the description of the genus Acetivibrio, which contains the two species A. cellulolyticus and A. ethanolgignens, be emended as originally stated by Robinson and Ritchie (1981) to include anaerobic, gram-negative, straight to slightly curved rods that produce mainly acetic acid, ethanol, H2, and CO2 and that are motile by means of a single flagellum or multiple flagella.
