Cells are Gram-stain-positive. Endospores are formed. Fermentative anaerobes utilized chitin as growth substrate. Psychrotroph. Both catalase reaction and oxidase activity are negative. The major cellular fatty acids are iso-C14:0, anteiso-C15:0, C16:0, and anteiso-C17:0. The G+C content of the type species is 35.4 mol%.
