Etymology
N.L. fem. gen. n. pamelaeae, of Pamela, named after Dr Pamela Lee Oxley (née Fredericks), biochemist, environmentalist, teacher and mentor.
Ecology
Source
isolated from the sigmoid region of the colon of a patient with active Crohn's disease (male, age 33).
Morphology
Cells are motile, non-spore-forming coccobacilli (0.5-0.6 × 0.8-1.2 µm). Cells display a conical cell apex. Growth is generally slow on BHI and Schaedler anaerobic media (Oxoid) supplemented with 5% defibrinated horse blood, with pale-white, semi-translucent colonies forming after 48-72 h of incubation at 37°C in an anaerobic environment. Subpolarly inserted flagella are apparent when cells are grown in BHI medium.
