Nomenclature type
41;DSM 12326
;VKM B-2282
Etymology
Gr. adj. thermos, hot; Gr. adv. autos, self; Gr. adj. trophikos, nursing, tending; N.L. fem. adj. thermautotrophica, indicating that the organism grows at elevated temperatures and uses carbon monoxide as sole source for carbon and energy.
Ecology
Source
isolated from a terrestrial hot vent of the Geyzer Valley, Kamchatka Peninsula.
Morphology
Cells are short, straight rods (0.4-0.5 × 1-3 µm) occurring singly or in short chains of three to five cells, and motile by lateral flagella. On solid medium, produces round, white, translucent colonies.
