The class Armatimonadia includes bacteria belonging to the phylum Armatimonadetes phyl. nov. Members of this class mainly inhabit mesophilic terrestrial environments, e.g. freshwater lakes and rivers. The delineation of the class is primarily determined based on phylogenetic analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences.
