General information
Description and emendation
The pattern of 16S rDNA/rRNA signature nucleotides of members of the family consists of 113-314 (C-G), 294-303 (G-C), 295-302 (U-A), 670-736 (G-C), 771-808 (U-A), 772-807 (A-U), 823-877 (A-U), 941-1342 (A-U), 950-1231 (U-G), 1120-1153 (G-C), 1148 (C), 1165-1171 (C-G), 1242-1295 (G-C), 1313-1324 (G-C), and 1410-1490 (A-U). The family contains the type genus Coriobacterium as well as Atopobium.
1: The 16S rRNA nucleotide signature pattern is as that of the subclass. The family contains the type genus Coriobacterium, as well as the genera Atopobium, Adlercreutzia, Collinsella, Cryptobacterium, Denitrobacterium, Eggerthella, Olsenella and Slackia.
2: The family contains the type genus Coriobacterium and the genus Collinsella. The species from this family are saccharolytic rods. They do not from spores or flagella and are strictly anaerobic. These organisms produce lactic acid, formic acid, ethanol and hydrogen as products of glucose fermentation. The DNA G+C content for members of the family ranges from 60 mol% to 65 mol%. The species from this family form a distinct clade in trees, and they are distinguished from all other members of the class Coriobacteriia by the conserved signature indels described in this report in the following proteins: nucleotidyltransferase, hypothetical protein Corgl_0438, peptidase M24, 50S ribosomal protein S18P-alanine acetyltransferase, phosphoribosylformylglycinamidine cycloligase, hypothetical protein Corgl_1765, a P-type HAD superfamily ATPase and a YhgE/Pip N-terminal domain protein.
