Includes spore-formers exhibiting Gram-type-positive, rod-shaped cells with anaerobic chemo-organotrophic metabolism. The DNA G+C content is around 45 mol%. Belongs to the order Clostridiales within the class 'Clostridiae' of the phylum Firmicutes.
