The family Emcibacteraceae is defined on the basis of a phylogenetic tree reconstructed by phylogenetic analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences. The family accommodates the genus Emcibacter. Gram-staining-negative and aerobic. The major respiratory quinone is Q-10. The major cellular fatty acid is summed feature 8 comprising C18:1 ω7c/C18:1 ω6c. The major polar lipids are phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, unidentified glycolipids and unidentified phospholipids.
