General information
Description and emendation
Non-flagellated, rod-shaped cells including rarer long filaments. Gram-negative. Strictly aerobic. Motile by gliding. Cell mass is pigmented yellow-orange and flexirubins are synthesized. Utilize carbohydrates for growth. Fatty acids contain a high proportion of branched-chain fatty acids (mainly i15:0 and i15:1 ω10c), as well as significant amounts of hydroxy fatty acids (mainly 3-OH i17:0). Isolated from freshwater environments, and do not grow in the presence of Na+ ions.
1: Cells are strictly aerobic, Gram-staining-negative, non-flagellated rods, including rarer long filaments, motile by gliding. The cell mass is pigmented yellow-orange by flexirubin-type pigments. Oxidase-negative and catalase-positive. Utilize carbohydrates for growth. The major respiratory quinone is MK-6. The predominant cellular fatty acids are iso-C15:0, iso-C15:1 G and iso-C17:0 3-OH. The polar lipid pattern comprises phosphatidylethanolamine, an unidentified phospholipid, several unidentified glycolipids and an unidentified polar lipid. Known strains have been isolated from freshwater environments; Na+ ions are not necessary for growth. The G+C content of the genomic DNA of the type species is 37.2 mol%.
2: Non-spore-forming, non-motile or motile by gliding. The major isoprenoid quinone is menaquinone-6 (MK-6). The major polar lipids are phosphatidylethanolamine, an unidentified aminolipid and an unidentified polar lipid. The DNA G+C content ranges from 37.2 to 44.1 mol%.
