N.L. fem. dim. n. <i>Imtechella</i>, arbitrary name formed from the acronym of the Institute of Microbial Technology, IMTECH, where the type strain of the type species was characterized.

Cells are aerobic, non-motile, Gram-negative, rod-shaped, positive for oxidase but negative for catalase. The major fatty acids are iso-C15:0, iso-C15:1 G and iso-C17:0 3-OH. MK-6 is the predominant respiratory quinone with MK-7 also found. The polar lipids include phosphatidylethanolamine, two unidentified aminolipids, four unidentified phospholipids and two unidentified lipids.
