N.L. fem. n. <i>Taeania</i>, named after Taean located on the Yellow Sea in Korea, from where the organism was isolated.

Cells are aerobic, Gram-stain-negative, non-flagellated and rod-shaped. Catalase-positive and oxidase-positive. The predominant menaquinone is MK-6. The major fatty acids (>10% of total fatty acids) are iso-C15:0, iso-C15:1 G and iso-C15:0 3-OH. The major polar lipids are phosphatidylethanolamine and an unidentified lipid. The DNA G+C content of the type species is 40.7 mol% (HPLC).
