Mesophilic, spore-forming, fermentative rods with Gram-positive cell-wall structure. Obligate anaerobes. Alkalitolerant. Do not require carbonate ions or NaCl for growth. Psychrotolerant mesophiles. Acetogenic (producing acetate as major end product). The G+C content of the genomic DNA of the type species is 39.5 mol% (HPLC).
