General information
Description and emendation
Cells show a Gram-negative staining behaviour. Motile, non-endospore-forming rods, approx. 0.5 μm in width and 1.5 μm in length. Facultatively anerobic and oxidase-positive. Good growth occurs after 48 h on NA, brain heart infusion agar, TSA and R2A agar (all Oxoid) at 20-30°C. The diagnostic diamino acid of the peptidogolycan is meso-diaminopimelic acid. The polyamine pattern contains the major compound putrescine and the diagnostic 2-hydroxy-putrescine. Spermidine, 1,3-diaminopropane, cadaverine and spermine are present in moderate to minor amounts. Diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylethanolamine are major components in the polar lipid profile. In addition, moderate to minor amounts of phosphatidylserine and unidentified lipids are present (aminophospholipid APL1, aminolipid AL1 and lipid L1, lacking any functional group). The major compound in the quinone system is ubiquinone Q-8, and minor amounts of Q-7 and Q-9 are also detectable. The G+C content of the genomic DNA is 63.9 mol%.
