Limnobacter Spring et al. 2001
General information
Description and emendation
Cells are Gram-negative, slightly curved rods that are motile by single polar flagella. Polyhydroxybutyrate is stored as a reserve material. Endospores are not formed. Strictly aerobic; oxidase-positive and catalase-positive. Growth occurs between 4 and 38°C. Carboxylic acids and amino acids are used as energy and carbon sources, but no carbohydrates or polyols are used. Not able to grow autotrophically. Thiosulfate is oxidized to sulfate in the presence of an organic carbon source. Major fatty acids are 18:1 ω7c, 16:1 ω7c, 16:0 and 10:0 3-OH. The G+C content of the DNA of type species is 55 mol% (Tm).
1: Growth occurs between 4 and 44°C. The major ubiquinone is Q-8.
2: Cells are slightly curved rods or straight rods and major polar lipids include DPG, PE, and PG.
