Description and emendation
Original Description
expand / minimize
Gram-negative bacterium with chemoorganotrophic and strictly respiratory metabolism. Catalase-positive and oxidase-positive. Preferred carbon sources are organic acids. Most sugars (e.g. glucose, fructose, xylose), sugar acids (e.g. gluconate), polyalcohols (e.g. sorbitol, glycerol), alcohols (e.g. ethanol, butanediol, phenol), amino acids, polypeptides (e.g. nutrient broth, gelatin, Luria±Bertani broth) or polysaccharides (e.g. starch, cellulose) do not support growth. PHB and related homopolyesters and/or co-polymers of hydroxyalkanoic acids can be accumulated intracellularly. Chemolithoautotrophic or phototrophic growth has not been observed.
