Description and emendation
Original Description
expand / minimize
Forms rod-shaped cells that stain Gram-negative. Endospores are not formed. Slightly thermophilic. Strictly aerobic; oxidase-positive and catalase-positive. Fatty acids are straight-chained; major phospholipids are phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylglycerol; ubiquinone 8 is the major respiratory quinone. Reduced sulfur compounds are oxidized to sulfate. Chemolithoheterotrophic. Organic acids and amino acids are used as carbon and energy sources, but sugars and polyols are not assimilated.
Emendation
Emendation 1
1: Some strains of this genus assimilate carbohydrates, namely glucose and fructose.
