Cells are rod-shaped. Member of the class Deltaproteobacteria. Anaerobic. Neutrophilic. Cell wall of Gram-negative type. Does not form endospores. Chemolithoautotrophic growth by disproportionation of elemental sulfur, thiosulfate and sulfite to sulfide and sulfate.
