General information
Name
Metallibacterium scheffleri
Valid publication
2013
Etymology
N.L. gen. masc. n. scheffleri, of Scheffler, named in honour of the geologist Horst Scheffler and in recognition of his work on mine geology and commitment to our work.
Ecology
Source
isolated from an acidic biofilm found in the pyrite mine Drei Kronen und Ehrt in the Harz Mountains, Germany.
Morphology
Cells are non-spore-forming, non-motile rods (0.4-0.6 × 1.3-2.6). Cells occur often as diplobacilli and form aggregates in liquid medium. Yellowish colonies appear on double-layer plates after 2 weeks.
