Cells are Gram-stain-negative, catalase-positive and oxidase-positive. Q-8 is the predominant quinone. The major fatty acids are summed feature 3 (C16 : 1ω7c/C16 : 1ω6c) and iso-C13 : 0 3-OH. The polar lipids are DPG, PG, PE, three unidentified PLs, five unidentified ALs and one unidentified APL. Phylogenetically, the genus Ephemeroptericola is a member of the family Burkhoderiaceae of the class Betaproteobacteria. The type species is Ephemeroptericola cinctiostellae.
