The family Helicobacteraceae was circumscribed for this volume on the basis of phylogenetic analysis of 16S rRNA sequences; the family contains the genera Helicobacter (type genus), Thiovulum, and Wolinella. Microaerophilic or anaerobic. Morphologically, metabolically, and ecologically diverse. Includes human and animal pathogens.
