Cells are yellow-pigmented; flexirubin pigments are not produced. Coccoid and amorphous-shaped. Do not form endospores. Gram-stain-negative and obligately aerobic. The major respiratory quinone is MK-6. Predominant cellular fatty acids are iso-C15:1 G, iso-C15:0 and iso-C15:0 3-OH. Contains proteorhodopsin.
