General information
Description and emendation
Rod-shaped, non-motile, Gram-negative cells. Endospores are not formed. Na+ ions are required for growth. Strictly aerobic. Non-diffusible yellow pigments are produced. No flexirubins are formed. Chemoorganotrophic. Cytochrome oxidase, catalase and alkaline phosphatase are positive. Major respiratory quinone is MK-6. Main cellular fatty acids are the straight- and branched-chain unsaturated fatty acids iso-C15:0, iso-C15:1, iso-C16:0, iso-C16:0 3-OH and iso-C17:0 3-OH.
1: Cells may be motile by means of gliding. Phosphatidylethanolamine is the only phospholipid identified. The G+C content of the DNA is in the range 32-37 mol%.
2: Cellular fatty acids are characterized by saturated, unsaturated, methyl-branched and hydroxy fatty acids. The predominant cellular fatty acid is iso-C15:0. The other major fatty acids are species-dependent. The G+C content of the DNA is 30.0-36.1 mol%.
3: The DNA G+C content is 30.0-42.1 mol%.
4: Some species produce flexirubin pigments.
