General information
Description and emendation
Rod-shaped cells. Non-motile. Gram-negative. Do not form endospores. Require Na+ ions for growth. Strictly aerobic. Produce non-diffusible yellow pigments. No flexirubins are formed. Chemoorganotroph. Cytochrome oxidase-, catalase- and alkaline phosphatase-positive. Predominant cellular fatty acids are straight-chain saturated, branched-chain saturated and unsaturated fatty acids iso-C15:0, iso-C15:1, C15:0 and iso-C17:03-OH. The main lipoquinone is MK-6.
1: Cells are rod-shaped, Gram-negative, non-flagellated and motile by gliding. Do not form endospores. Metabolism is strictly aerobic and heterotrophic. Yellow non-diffusible pigments that do not belong to the flexirubin type are produced. Cytochrome oxidase, catalase and alkaline phosphatase activities are present. Does not reduce nitrate to nitrite. The requirement for sodium salts is species-dependent. Predominant cellular fatty acids are straight-chain saturated, branched-chain saturated and unsaturated fatty acids iso-C15:0, iso-C15:1, C15:0 and iso-C17:0 3-OH. The main lipoquinone is MK-6.
2: Strains can reduce nitrate to nitrite. Arginine dihydrolase, lysine- and ornithine-decarboxylases and tryptophan deaminase activities are absent.
3: The major polar lipid of the strains analysed is phosphatidylethanolamine. Several unidentified phospholipids, aminolipids, aminophospholipids and lipids also occur. Nitrate reduction and hydrolysis of gelatin and starch are species-dependent.
4: An unidentified glycolipid is detected in some species. The presence of C15:0 is dependent on culture conditions.
5: The type of metabolism is aerobic or facultatively anaerobic. Flexirubin pigments can be produced by certain strains.
6: Gliding motility, production of flexirubin-type pigments and indole production are species-dependent. The DNA G+C content is 32.6-41.1 mol%.
