Etymology
N.L. fem. N. <i>Wenyingzhuangia</i>, named after Professor Wen-Ying Zhuang, one of the academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a microbiologist and mycologist in China.

Strictly aerobic and heterotrophic. Cells are Gram-stain-negative, non-flagellated, non-gliding short rods, or occasionally spherical bodies. Oxidase-positive and catalase-positive. Cells contain carotenoid pigments but not flexirubin-type pigments. MK-6 is the sole menaquinone. PE is the sole phospholipid. The major cellular fatty acids (>10%) are iso-C15:0, iso-C17:0 3-OH, C16:1 ω7c/C16:1 ω6c, iso-C15:0 3-OH and iso-C15:1 G. The DNA G+C content of the type species is 35.9 mol%.
