isolated from seafloor basalt offshore of Jan Mayen in the Norwegian/Greenland Sea at a depth of 1300m.
Morphology
Cells are rods (0.2-0.3 × 1-3 µm) in exponential growth phase. Cells in stationary phase are pleomorphic, 0.2-0.3 µm in diameter but with lengths ranging from 1 to 30 µm. Branched and curled cells are also seen in stationary-phase cultures. As cultures age, cells degenerate into spheroplasts ranging from 0.15 to 1 µm in diameter. Cells are motile. Colonies grown on MA are shiny, dark yellow, circular, convex, with an entire margin.
