Hungateiclostridiaceae Zhang et al. 2018
General information
Description and emendation
The family Hungateiclostridiaceae contains four newly proposed genera (Thermoclostridium, Hungateiclostridium, Ruminiclostridium, Pseudoclostridium), and the previously reported Pseudobacteroides [43], Anaerobacterium [70], Ercella [71], Fastidiosipila [44], Mageeibacillus [45] and Saccharofermentans [46]. These genera form a distinct monophyletic clade in the order Clostridiales according to 16S rRNA gene sequence phylogenetic analyses, which can be further distinguished from the adjacent family Ruminococcaceae through ribosomal protein- and genome-based phylogenetic trees. Obligately anaerobic chemoheterotrophs. Cells are rod-shaped. A number of saccharides are fermented with the generation of acetate and H2. Most type strains can utilize cellulose as sole carbon and energy source for growth. The type genus is Hungateiclostridium.
