Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) encompasses a spectrum of chronic, idiopathic, and progressive inflammatory conditions of the gastrointestinal tract, with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis comprising the majority. Both conditions have distinct pathophysiological and clinical characteristics but share common immune-mediated mechanisms.
