Title: | Clinical trial: physical, psychological and social needs of patients. |
Abstract: | Liver disease has become the fifth most common cause of death in the UK and is associated with significant morbidity. Obesity and type II diabetes have been shown to be on the increase as well, playing a major role in chronic liver disease. Treatment options remain limited for those patients with fatty liver disease. This article uses a reflective case study to demonstrate how the research nurse is able to identify some of the physical, psychological and social needs that impact on a patient's journey throughout his clinical trial participation. The patient's psychological wellbeing became compromised as a result of social stressors at home and coming to terms with his liver condition. |
