Title: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: treatment options based on pathogenic considerations.
Abstract: NASH is a frequent liver disease that develops in close association with IR and may progress to cirrhosis. Exclusion of excessive alcohol consumption as well as of other liver diseases and liver histology are required for diagnosis. Progress in the understanding of the pathophysiology of NASH allows interesting therapeutic considerations. It is logical to treat the associated metabolic conditions to influence the disease activity and progression. In view of promising preliminary data, several drugs are currently used in clinical trials.
