Title: [NASH: a less known but severe complication of diabetes].
Abstract: Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is the most common chronic liver disease and is associated with type 2 diabetes in almost 60% of the cases. Its pathophysiology is complex: it consists in the accumulation of intrahepatocyte lipids and in the development of inflammation and fibrosis. Its diagnosis is based on imaging and blood tests to rule out other causes of liver damage. In doubt, the liver biopsy is the gold standard. There is currently no specific treatment available, but many molecules will soon be on the market. Therefore, it is important to actively check for NASH in type 2 diabetic patients, specially to avoid its progression to cirrhosis.
